WHAT IS MCOM ?

The MCom Professional is a 2 years (4 semesters) program offered by the Department of Commerce.

Masters of Commerce or MCom is a post graduate level course ideal for candidates who wish to make a career in banking financial services and insurance (BFSI) as well as accounting and commerce sectors. The 2-year course delves deeper into the functioning of the economy, capital, revenue, trade, taxes, etc. taught in BCom.Since, MCom is a specialized area in itself, only those candidates who have pursued BCom or BCom (H), can go for it. MCom is also a good option for CA/CS candidates. However, not many CA/CS aspirants pursue MCom as CA/CS courses can be pursued after class 12. MCom is most popular among aspiring teachers/lecturers and researchers. UGC-NET/JRF and PhD are among popular options for MCom degree holders. Admission to MCom in top universities is done through entrance exam. Eligibility For Master of Commerce (M.Com) 

To get an admission into an M.Com. Program, you need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce
  • Minimum 50% marks at the level of graduation
  • Some universities also take in students who have a B.A. Economics (Hons.) degree.
  • Students who have passed B.B.S., B.B.A., B.F.I.A. and B.B.E. with at least 60% marks can also apply.

Master of Commerce (M.Com): Why M.Com and Career Prospects

M.Com is a postgraduate course that can be taken up after B.com, which is primarily an undergraduate course. Once M.Com. is done, students can go for MBA or LLB, Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Commerce (D.Com.) or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Many top universities all over India such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (SIBM) offer the MBA course.
In Private Sector, these could be the employment roles:

After completing the Master of Commerce program, students can get employed in both Private and Public Sector. In the public sector, students can work in various nationalized banks like State Bank of India, Union Bank, etc. Even the Railway Recruitment Board hires M.Com postgraduates for the position of Assistant Accounts/Audit Officer.
